Phuthanang Introduction

The Phuthanang Training Centre for the Disabled is a non-profit organization established to provide life skills to young people with mental and physical disabilities.

The centre was established in 2007 and has been receiving students from and around Tembisa. The students are taught literacy (languages and numeracy), income generation projects such as flower arrangements, decorations and catering, sporting activities and workshops on life skills.

We have 82 students (the number keeps growing) most of which are slow learners.

One student has autism (which means has difficulty communicating well with people or seating in one place), one student is in a wheelchair, four students have walking difficulties but are independent they are not using wheelchairs, one with hearing problem.

“I choose not to place “DIS”, in my ability.”
